ARE YOU DONE?

ARE YOU DONE?

All throughout our lives, opportunities will present themsleves to us, and these opportunities have come from the Lord. We will have a choice to make; Follow His leading or make excuses and miss out.

We were introduced to Moses yesterday in our reading. Moses’ life was spared by God, and His sovereignty and providence is seen all throughout his life. He is basically running for his life, and sees a bush on fire in the wilderness.

Side lesson here we will see throughout Scripture. Fire is a representation of the presence of God!

Moses was chosen by God before he was even born(a priniciple we see in Jeremiah), and he is now in chapters 3-4 told by God what He wants him to do. God tells Moses that He wants him to deliver the people from Egypt, and stand up to Pharaoh.

Here is the lesson for today: God isn’t looking for excuses, He is looking for willingness and obedience.

Once God tells Moses what He wants him to do, the excuses start to flow.
I am a nobody - 3:11
The people won’t believe me - 4:1
I am not good at speaking - 4:10
Send someone else - 4:13

But just as the Lord always is, He is patient with Moses. He answers every doubt, fear, and excuse every time Moses tries to wiggle his way out, the Lord silences every excuse. And I believe the common answer that He gives him, is “I will be with you”. Even from the burning bush, to allowing Moses to do miracles in the presence of Pharaoh and his leaders, God was with Moses EVERY STEP OF THE WAY.

And I want you to see these few verses as we close.

Exodus 4:13-17
13 - Moses said, “Please, Lord, send someone else.” 14 - Then the Lord’s anger burned against Moses, and he said, “Isn’t Aaron the Levite your brother? I know that he can speak well. And also, he is on his way now to meet you. He will rejoice when he sees you. 15 - You will speak with him and tell him what to say. I will help both you and him to speak and will teach you both what to do. 16 - He will speak to the people for you. He will serve as a mouth for you, and you will serve as God to him. 17 - And take this staff in your hand that you will perform the signs with.”

When I read this, it’s almost like I can hear the Lord say in verses 14-17 “Moses, are you done? Are you done making excuses? Are you done trying to be comfortable? Are you done trying to just coast through life? ARE YOU DONE?" And, I believe the Lord is saying the same to us today. When are we going to be done with excuses? When are we going to be done trying to get out of what God has ahead for us, just because it is scary or different than we have known. We are good at coming up with excuses. We are almost professionals at it. But, an excuse is just a roadblock to stop us from the work of God!

Let’s be done with excuses, and let’s offer ourselves up to God. Let’s be willing and obedient, and see the mighty things God can do through us!
